Upper Potomac Highlands

Science Expo 2024

Local students presenting research projects and local professionals sharing their expertise.

We invite the community to come and learn with us!

What/When/Where

Essentially, it’s half science fair and half career fair.

Our main goals of the Science Expo are to form connections between students and the local scientific community and to showcase how science and technical professionals can learn and thrive right here at home in the Upper Potomac Highlands of West Virginia.

Students will present research projects. This is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and creativity. The presentations take various forms including posters, oral presentations, videos, slideshows, scientific models, and more!

Local professionals and organizations will share STEM career information, including the WVU Extension, the WVDEP, Eastern WV Community & Technical College, Hampshire Co. High School Technical Center, The Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies, Potomac State College and a variety of individual scientific professionals. This is a great chance for the students to learn from professionals in the field, and to gain exposure to different perspectives and ideas.

A panel discussion with advice and guidance for students preparing for a STEM career in WV, so be sure to bring your questions!

Scientific professionals will judge the presentations, offering valuable feedback and insight.

⚡ To further enrich the students’ experience, local educational resources will be present like Potomac State College, Eastern WV Community and Technical College and county technical schools. They will provide information and answer any questions the students may have.

For those not presenting, there are still many reasons to attend the Science Expo

  • If you’re interested in pursuing a career that requires scientific or technical training, you’ll be pleased to know that opportunities are available right here at home! Join us to learn and gain insights from those who are already thriving in this field!
  • Are you a homeschooler? Join in for a fun and enriching experience with other members of the local homeschool community!
  • This is an excellent chance to support and empower our budding scientists in the community, to encourage their growth and success.
